Meet Rocket
Rescued 2008
Adoption Application

Rocket large picturerocket large 2

Rocket has really come out of his shell since he came to me in December 2008.  At first he was really scared of me and would run every time he thought I was walking toward him.  He would hide in his crate if I tried to pick him up. If he was sleeping in the floor and I walked into the room, the poor guy would jump up and get as far away as he could get.  Judging from his behavior when he first came to me, I am sure he had not been treated very well by his previous family.  He had obviously spent some time lying on a hard surface because he had worn the hair off his front legs and had calluses on his 'knees'.

Now Rocket runs to me as fast as he can when I call him.  When I am working on the computer, he comes over to my chair and sits there looking up at me until I give him an ear scratch or belly rub :-) At bedtime, he dashes to the bed to get there before all the others so he can roll over and get his "goodnight" belly rub.  When I tell him to give me "kisses", he reaches up to lick my face.  Not once has Rocket shown any sign of aggression toward me, other people or any of the other dogs.  He is simply a lover and needs to be with someone who can give him all the love he has missed in his short four-year-life. He would not do well with someone who would speak harshly to him.  That is not necessary with Rocket since he is more than willing to do whatever pleases his person.

Even though he is one of the "giant" Affens, weighing in at 23 pounds, Rocket loves playing with my 7-pound Brussels Griffon!  Also he loves to play chase in the backyard with all the other dogs and, he can "wrestle" with the best of them!  He would love to play with the cats however, they would rather not.

I am still working on Rocket's housetraining.  Apparently he had been an outside dog.  We had to start from scratch and it has taken a while.  However, now most of the time he lets me know when he needs to go out by standing in the middle of the room and barking at me.  In the morning, he is like an alarm clock for me.  When he wakes, he jumps off the bed barking for me to get up; and let him out!  He is still learning so he does have the occasional accident.  Usually it is because I wasn't paying attention when he tried to tell me.

Let us know if you'd like to learn more about this delightful little fellow, write to the Rescue Coordinator, Sarah and she will answer your questions. If you are interested in adopting this boy, complete an application. A sample adoption contract can be seen by clicking here. You must be willing to drive or fly to where the dog is located  and be able to carry the dog on the plane in the cabin section.  We do not ship our dogs.
