Spike was a stray and was picked
up and put in a shelter. They were not sure of his past, and because he was
terrified of the cage, they thought he was anti-social. He was rescued by a
non-kill group that gets dogs out of the city shelter. He would act like he
wanted attention, but the moment someone tried to get him out of his cage, he
would growl and snap. One shelter worked worked and worked with him and eventually
gained his trust and was able to get him out of his cage. Once out, Spike transformed
into a very different dog.
He is shy around new people, but within minutes he was showing me his toys and
play biting my hand. The trip to his new home took three hours, on two trains,
a cab, and a car. He was an angel and fell asleep in my arms. When we got into
the city, he showed how full of life he is. He was so excited and was jumping
on me to show his enthusiasm. He loves going to walks on his leash (he is still
scared to go into the yard by himself, and is much more comfortable on his leash).
He is drawn to little black dogs....hmmmmm! Wonder why :-)
He played well with two little girls (4 and 6) but they were supervised. He
seemed to have no issue with the girls.
Spike wants to be near us at home, and sleeps in the bed with us (oops...bad
habit but all Affens worm their way into bed sooner or later). He is cuddly
and sweet, loves attention and needs to feel secure. He is partially housebroken,
but still marks despite having been just neutered. He needs someone with "puppy"
experience and patience...we estimate that he is between one and two, but seems
to be finding his first puppy life now. He weighs about 13 pounds.
All in all, he is a great little doggy who is so full of love, has a lot to
give, and is so grateful to be out of that shelter.
UPDATE - Spike has been adopted!
