Meet Zachary (Zach)
Rescued 2007

Meet Zachary, the 6-year-old male Affen who weighs in at 10.5 lbs.  Zach was so matted when he came into rescue, he had to be completely shaved except for his head.  His coat is beginning to come back in and, it is going to be rather wiry just like the hair on his head and beard.  He is mixed black and gray which appears to glow in the sunlight.

Little Zachary was an extremely frightened little boy when I first started fostering him.  For several weeks when he knew I was getting ready to pick him up, he would grow extremely stiff and shake uncontrollably.  The look of absolute terror in his eyes just broke my heart!  I can not imagine what terrible treatment he must have endured in his short lifetime to have become so afraid of humans.  Even though Zach was obviously mistreated in his prior life, he is beginning to warm up to me and no longer shakes and stiffens when I pick him up.  He even loves to sit in my lap while I work on the computer.  One night he became so relaxed in my lap that he fell asleep!

Zach is now learning what "doggie toys" and "treats" are for.  He especially loves a tidbit of cheese when he has gone "potty" outside :-)  When he went along for the ride to Pets Mart one night, he showed no signs of fear of the car and traffic.  In fact, he watched all the cars with complete fascination!  Inside the store, he behaved like a perfect gentleman watching all the other doggies. However, he did want me to carry him around instead of sitting in the basket or walking on the leash. That is really progress for a guy who was terrified of the human touch a few weeks ago!

Zachary plays well with all the other dogs and, he is crate trained for sleeping and eating.  He really needs a home that will have the patience and understanding to continue teaching him that not all humans are going to be mean to him.  I believe that in no time at all, Zach will become a "velcro dog" who wants to be with his human.

Zach has been adopted!! Zachary has gone to live with his new mom in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She says he is doing wonderfully and is starting to be a real cuddly boy.
