Meet Zevie
Rescued December 2001 |

Hi. My name is Zevie....actually it's my new name since no one knows what
other names I might have had in the past. My foster mom got a call from Animal
Control telling her that they had a Brussels Griffon, a black one....but upon
close inspection it was discovered that it's quite possible that I'm a purebred
Affenpinscher! I have cropped ears and docked tail. Once I get a good haircut,
I'm going to be a very, very pretty girl.
The vet says I'm only about 2 years old...but I've been around. Little is known about my early days but it's thought that I might have been sold by a local puppymill since I got too big to breed. I weigh about 16 lbs and I won't get any bigger...promise! Sadly, I was sold to a family that didn't really want me. They threw me out in the backyard and sort of forgot about me. A kind neighbor watched as I sat there without food and water for long periods of time (and no human or animal company...I was so lonely). Finally, he couldn't stand it anymore and went over and told them he was taking me since they obviously didn't care about me. No one objected.
He couldn't keep me at his house and gave me to a friend. Unfortunately, no one realized that I DO NOT like cats! So again, I lost my new home since I didn't get along with the resident cats and wanted to hurt them. At this point, the kind man contacted a local animal control officer that he knew worked with many local rescue groups...he knew she'd do everything possible to find me a place where I was safe. She contacted NBGC rescue because she thought I was a griffy....and I was finally safe and happy. Now the only thing that would be better is my very own forever home where I'll never be mistreated or neglected again. Could that be you?
I'm spayed and have had all my shots so I'm ready to go soon. I'm heartworm negative and on preventative so I won't get sick. I love to sit with my favorite humans in their chair and love to play with them. I flip over on my back and wrestle with hands....it's fun. I'd like to learn to play with toys but I'm sort of scared of other dogs so I haven't done that much (there are lots of little dogs here). I would probably be OK with another dog as long as it was a very mellow one that didn't want to push me around. If they bark at me, I run and hide under the table by my foster mom....even though they're smaller than I am. I'm not very brave yet. Again, NO KITTIES, old, young or in between. I just don't like them.
I do well in a crate (no messes)...although I don't like to be in there if my humans are around. I understand the basics of housebreaking but need a little "refresher course" to remind me. Sometimes I'm so intent on staying with my human that I forget to go outside. With a little reminder (and if you go with me) I do the right thing and wait eagerly for my treat. I'm a very smart girl and will learn fast for you. I can walk on a leash pretty good.
